How Managers Are Using AI to Boost Their Skills

Artificial intelligence is quickly becoming a powerful tool for managers who want to sharpen their communication, streamline administrative tasks, and connect more effectively with their teams. Here are a few ways the managers I work with are putting AI to use in everyday leadership moments:

1. Filter Your Frustration Before You Hit Send

One manager recently shared their concern: they were gearing up to send yet another email to their team about a recurring issue, but they knew it would come across as frustrated or passive-aggressive. Instead, they ran their draft through an AI tool.

AI excels at taking raw, emotional thoughts and neutralizing the tone. It can help remove unintentional negativity or tension and turn a frustrated rant into a clear, respectful message. The result? Their team could hear the feedback and respond to it without getting defensive.

2. Create Better Surveys, Faster

Another manager needed to collect quick feedback from their team. They jotted down a few draft questions, then used AI to polish the language and create a clear, actionable survey.

The outcome? A professional, well-received survey, and more time for the manager to focus on what really mattered: analyzing the results and taking action based on the feedback.

3. Finally Write Those Job Descriptions

Writing or updating job descriptions is often the task that gets pushed to the bottom of the to-do list. But AI can help you knock this out in seconds.

Here’s how:

  • Use a tool like ChatGPT or Claude.ai and ask it to write a job description.

  • Provide enough context about the role, your company, location, and industry so that the AI can generate something accurate and specific.

  • Treat the output as a draft! Then, review, edit, and customize it to reflect your needs and tone.

With the heavy lifting done, you’ll be able to focus on fine-tuning and moving forward.

Bonus Use Case: Turn Team Photos into Coloring Sheets

This one’s fun. AI can even help with team engagement! Ask ChatGPT it to create a coloring sheet from a team photo or a picture of your office. Use it in a team builder, add it to your breakroom, or bring some creativity into your next offsite.

Here’s one I made of the Manager Training Series and another of my Chief Office Dog, Quimby. Send me yours—I’d love to see what you come up with!

AI doesn’t replace the human side of leadership, but it can make the work easier, clearer, and more fun. Give it a try. You might be surprised how much time (and stress) it saves you.
